Turn Your AV Experience Into an Engineering Career
NBCP Communications Systems is hiring an experienced AV professional to join our engineering team designing and delivering advanced audiovisual, VTC, unified communications, and command-and-control systems nationwide.
You do not need to currently hold the title of “AV Design Engineer.”
We want to hear from experienced AV engineers, commissioning technicians, service technicians, lead installers, and other technically strong AV professionals who understand how complete systems work and are ready for greater engineering responsibility.
This position combines system design, technical problem solving, equipment selection, documentation, customer interaction, and field engineering. You will work with a project from initial customer requirement through design, installation, commissioning, and final acceptance.
What You Will Engineer
Projects range from standard collaboration environments to highly complex systems, including:
- Conference and collaboration rooms
- Professional VTC and Unified Communications systems
- Training and classroom systems
- Auditoriums and large presentation environments
- Video walls and large-scale visualization
- AV-over-IP systems
- Operations and command centers
- Secure Government and DoD communications environments
You will not spend every day designing variations of the same conference room.
What You Will Do
- Design complete professional AV, VTC, and Unified Communications systems.
- Convert customer requirements into practical, buildable technical solutions.
- Develop equipment lists, BOMs, scopes of work, and proposal documentation.
- Select and specify displays, projectors, DSPs, control systems, switching, cameras, microphones, conferencing systems, and related technologies.
- Develop or assist with signal-flow drawings, wiring diagrams, rack elevations, wall plates, and installation details.
- Perform site surveys and identify electrical, network, infrastructure, mounting, and installation requirements.
- Develop project estimates and support technical pricing.
- Work directly with customers to explain system designs and resolve technical requirements.
- Coordinate with programmers, project managers, sales personnel, and installation teams.
- Provide technical support during installation and resolve field engineering issues.
- Support system commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and final acceptance.
- Maintain technical ownership of the solution from design through completion.
What You Need
We are looking for real AV knowledge, not simply experience selecting equipment from a catalog.
- 3+ years of professional AV engineering, installation, commissioning, service, programming, or comparable technical experience.
- Strong understanding of AV signal flow and complete system architecture.
- Working knowledge of professional audio, DSP, video distribution, control systems, conferencing, and AV-over-IP.
- Ability to understand how individual components function together as a complete system.
- Ability to develop accurate equipment lists and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving ability.
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate directly and professionally with customers.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to satisfy background and access requirements for work at U.S. military installations.
Technical Experience We Value
Experience with any combination of the following is highly desirable:
- Crestron
- Extron
- AMX
- QSC
- Biamp
- Dante
- AV-over-IP
- Microsoft Teams Rooms
- Zoom Rooms
- Professional VTC systems
- AutoCAD
- Visio
- Revit
- Networked audio/video
- AV system commissioning
- AV field service
- Control-system programming
- Government or DoD AV environments
- AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I
- Manufacturer certifications
- Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance
Strong Field Technicians: We Want to Talk to You
If you are an experienced lead AV installer, commissioning technician, service technician, programmer, or field engineer who can troubleshoot complete AV systems and understand why they work, this can be your opportunity to move into full systems engineering.
We can teach design processes and develop your engineering skills. We cannot teach years of hands-on technical aptitude overnight.
Why This Position Is Different
Work on Complex Systems
Our projects extend well beyond standard conference rooms. NBCP engineers work on large visualization systems, operations centers, secure VTC systems, classrooms, auditoriums, command-and-control environments, and other technically demanding systems.
Engineer What Actually Gets Built
You will work directly with the people who program, install, commission, and support your designs. You will see the results of your engineering decisions in the field.
Advance Technically
Strong performers can advance into senior engineering, solutions engineering, sales engineering, technical leadership, and other positions with greater responsibility.
Hybrid Flexibility
This position is based in San Antonio with the ability to work from home approximately 30% of the workweek. Annual travel is generally less than 20%.
Compensation
Competitive base salary based on demonstrated AV experience and technical capability.
Candidates who develop into or qualify for Sales Engineering responsibilities may also become eligible for significant commission-based earning opportunities.
If you understand AV systems, can troubleshoot them, and are ready to take greater technical ownership of how they are designed, we want to talk to you.
Apply and tell us about the most technically challenging AV system you have designed, installed, programmed, commissioned, or repaired.
Compensation: $60,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
